Neal’s Lit Word

Title: Disciplined to Devotion!

Scripture: Jeremiah 31:18-19

'I have heard Israel saying, ‘You disciplined me severely, like a calf that needs training for the yoke. Turn me again to you and restore me, for you alone are the Lord my God. I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’

Observation: What is God saying to me?

Young energy needs guidance. Excitement uncontrolled can cause all sorts of problems. Discipline is a requirement for youth with hopes that after years of discipline the youth will grow into a trained adult who is orderly, has routine and regimen that keep them close to Me. When energy and excitement cause the young calf to get off course and run away from safety discipline, correction and a firm hand will bring them home. Discipline is the practice of training people to listen to and obey My voice.

Application: What will I do about it?

Living a life of order, routine and regimen is living a disciplined life. The purpose of discipline is to stay close to the heart and voice of God. To me, this is the most important reason why discipline matters in life. I want to live a disciplined life and also train others to live a disciplined life. Discipline leads to devotion!

Prayer:

Heavenly Trainer, Thank You for loving us enough to correct us. Thank You for not allowing us to stray too far off track. You bring us back through discipline and correction. Help us to live a disciplined life and to show others how to do the same. In Jesus’ name, amen!

I Am Grateful For… Discipline that leads to devotion.
