Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Don’t Take the Bait”

Scripture: Proverbs 27:3

It’s easier to carry a heavy boulder and a ton of sand
than to be provoked by a fool and have to carry that burden!

Observation: What is God saying to me?

My Holy Spirit will train you to not be easily provoked.
When you take the bait of the provoker two things happen.
1️⃣ You give them the satisfaction of succeeding
2️⃣ You give control of emotions to the provoker
⬇️ Ecclesiastes 7:9
“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.”

Application: What will I do about it?

Don’t take the bait. Provoking doesn’t always come from our enemies, sometimes it can show up between the closest of friends. Husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, parents and kids… don’t take the bait no matter where the provoking comes from. Rather than quick reactions, when provoked delay the response and use wisdom in reply. “Be slow to speak, slow to anger, abounding in love.” James 1:9

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, one of the fruits that comes from You is self control. Lord, we want more of that! Help us to not be easily provoked and to respond in wisdom rather than reaction, In Jesus’ Name!

I Am Grateful For… Self Control from the Holy Spirit
