Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Hungry Hunter”

Scripture: Proverbs 27:7 (MSG)

When you’ve stuffed yourself, you refuse dessert;
when you’re starved, you could eat a horse

Observation: What is God saying to me?

Hunger is a good thing. It is a great motivator. We can stuff ourselves on all kinds of things. It’s good to learn when enough is enough. It’s good to know when we have had our fill. When someone is overly stuffed, they lose motivation, they can become lazy and lethargic. Hunger is a great motivator to get up and hunt. Hungry people have a desire to seek and find. If you get hungry enough, you learn how to hunt!

Application: What will I do about it?

We need to look closely at our lives to see if there is anything we are “overstuffing” ourselves with. Once we identify what it is, we can cut back or eliminate the thing that is making us lazy. We are not called to be lazy slugs, we are called to be hungry hunters.

1️⃣ Identify what you are overstuffed with. (food, social media, people)
2️⃣ Take a little break from it (which is called a fast)
3️⃣ Test and see if the break helps increase motivation
4️⃣ Experiment with regular fasts to stay in balance and hungry

Prayer:

Jesus, You walked the earth in perfect balance and You are teaching us balance along the way. Help us to be honest and wise when it comes to what we are consuming too much of. Help us take a break from anything that is keeping us from chasing after You. Amen!

I Am Grateful For… wisdom to take a break
