Title: “Simple Love Test”

Scripture: 1 John 2:4-6

The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

This is a love test. It’s not a complicated test at all. How do you know if you are in Me (Christ)? You know by the type of love that you walk in. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Love your neighbor as yourself. This fulfills every commandment. You know you are in Me (Christ) when you give yourself fully to walking in this simple love. Love covers over sin. Accept My sacrifice and love for you. Allow this love to dwell deeply inside of you. In Me, you receive love and in Me you can give love. You can’t give and walk in something that you have not received. I died to cover your sin and to bring you into perfect love.

Application: What will I do about it?

Instead of getting all worked up to “keep all God's commands,” all we need to do is walk in love. Love God and love people. Today, let’s receive God’s love in a fresh way, and let’s give the love we receive to the hurting world around us. All we need to know if we are walking in Christ is to test the love we walk in. If we see that hate and bitterness are flowing from within us, repent and receive a fresh dose of love.

Prayer:

Jesus, Your love is a simple test for us to check ourselves with. Today, we ask for a fresh infilling of love. You are love and if we are being filled with You, then we are filled with love for You and the world around us. So Lord, today we ask for more love to fill our hearts than ever before. Amen!
