Neal’s Lit Word

Title: "Humility Test"

Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:16-19

16 He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you. 17 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

Observation: What is God saying to me?

A humility test has lasting rewards for you. When you obtain too much or achieve at high levels it's easy for you to become arrogant and self confident. That’s not your story. You are not “self made.” I formed you from the dust of the earth, I knit you together in your mothers womb. You had nothing to do with it. I want to bless you but not at the expense of you becoming conceited and self confident. When you pass the humility test the result is an obedient heart. When our hearts are filled with rebellion and disobedience then the Lord has to humble and discipline His child. A humble heart is obedient not out of demand but out of devotion and affection. The result is the ability to produce great wealth that lasts.

Application: What will I do about it?

Look at the whispers of the Spirit and your conscience differently. When correction shows up, remember that you are being coached toward victory. You called to be a humble champion. Redirection and correction from the Holy Spirit are only sent to help you step into your calling. Don’t rebel against the whispers of the Spirit. Comply with a joyful disposition.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, thank you for the whispers that call our hearts to course correct. We embrace these whispers today with openness. We know You only correct and humble us to help us. You don’t hurt your children, you lead them to a good land. – Thank You Jesus! Amen!
