Neal’s Lit Word

Title: “Longing for Living Water”

Scripture: Psalm 42:1
As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.

Proverbs 22:7
Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Observation: What is God saying to me?
You have been in training your whole life. The world around you has been shaping you, teaching you what it wants to with a goal of holding you captive to what it's teaching you. The world does not want you to depart from its ways.

But I, the Lord, have been shaping you in The Way that is heavenly even when you have not been able to see it. I have been showing you that the road the world is leading you down is the Way of pain, misery and destruction. Allowing you to come to places of deep struggle is one of My training tactics. When you arrive at places of pain where you don’t know what to do, you will begin to see the only thing to do is lean on Me. Leaning and longing for Me is the beginning of discovering the Way that is out of this world.

Application: What will I do about it?
As the deer pants for water, my soul longs for You. That should be all of our deepest desires. When we come to a place of longing that only the Living God can satisfy, then we search for Him with all of our heart as if our very life depended on it, because it does.

Today we seek the Lord with deep longing and desire to be close to Him, the Living Water, where we can drink and be satisfied.

Prayer:
Living Water, you alone can satisfy our deepest longing. Cause our longing for You to increase and allow our experience of You to match our longing. As we prioritize You each step of the day, reveal through little wonders and large wonders that You are with us. Thank You for giving us permission to draw near. Amen!

I Am Grateful For… a longing to be with and experience God.

Think back and describe a time when you were so thirsty for God that nothing else would satisfy. How did it feel?

Are you that thirsty now? What will it take to bring back this much needed longing to be with Jesus?
