Stay Vigilant

blog lit word podcast Sep 20, 2020

LIT VERSE: Daniel Chapter 6, The Lions Den, Verse 10: Daniel knew the document was signed, he entered his house, opened his winder toward heaven from his roof chamber, and he continued kneeling on his knees three times a day, praying and giving thanks to his God as he had previously done.

Verses 22,23 … Because he was vigilant and had trusted in God, He sent the angels to shut the mouths of the Lions.

THOUGHT BREAKDOWN: (keep the text in the context)

The book says Daniel had an extraordinary spirit. This caused people who were comparing themselves to Daniel to become jealous of his excellence. Excellence, by definition, means he was excelling. When someone is excelling around you, it’s better to celebrate them to separate and compete with them.

The accusers around Daniel decided they would try to trap him and get him killed. They did this for no other reason than jealousy. When someone is driven by jealousy, it eventually comes back to bite them just as it did Daniel's accusers.

When they trapped him and threw him in the den of lions they thought they won. God flipped the script and turned it around on the accusers. He shut the mouths of the lions and kept Daniel safe. Then in the morning, the ones who brought the accusation were thrown into the lions den and killed by the very trap they had set.

Daniel was vigilant. That means watchful, on the lookout, awake, observant, and prayerful. He kept his focus rested on the Spirit, and he trusted the spirit to bring vengeance on the ones trying to harm him. Daniel was vigilant. The Spirit was the vigilante. He brought justice. Daniel's only job was to STAY VIGILANT.

WHAT IS THE SPIRIT SAYING?

Get vigilant. Be vigilant. Stay vigilant. No matter what is going on around us in this world, nothing should take our vigilance. It’s our right, and it’s our highest priority. If you need to GET vigilant, do it. If you are vigilant, just STAY there. Let nothing distract you from fixing your eyes on Him.

WHAT WILL I DO ABOUT IT?

Today, think of yourself like Daniel, he was a watchman on the wall. He was an observer in the lookout. No matter what, he chose to pray and praise. So will I, and so should you.
